Socio-Parasitology Reading Group is the first in a series of bimonthly reading groups, discussing ideas around parasitology, relations between species-interactions, human behaviour and social change.

This month’s text, is Georg Simmel’s text Forms of Social Interaction, which discusses the possibilities of societal change and how exchanges between human bodies are beneficial for forming social groups. Underpinning forms of social interactions in his text, Simmel works through anti-posivitism, to capture the nuance and variability found in human exchanges, by drawing meaning from the subjective experiences of individuals engaging in social interaction.

Georg Simmel, ‘Forms of Social Interaction’ in On Individuality and Social Forms (University of Chicago Press, 1971)

Parts of the text will be read together during the session to support open discussion

For access to Georg Simmel’s text and further information on the readings, please email sabrinamhasan@yahoo.co.uk for copies - previous knowledge on the topic is not essential.

This bimonthly reading group led by artist Sabrina Mumtaz Hasan thinks through social theory, political agency and philosophy, to find new methods for opening up ideas around social change in relation to humans paralleling parasites. The reading group is always open to everyone and free to attend.
